Trainee Scrutineer
The Trainee Scrutineer role is the first step on the scrutineering pathway.
You must be 16 years or over to get started and will be allocated a mentor to support you through your modular training.
To start the process of becoming a Trainee Scrutineer you will need to attend a Taster Day – please speak to your local club about arranging this with a Chief Scrutineer, or email Officials@motorsportuk.org.
Following the successful completion of the Taster Day, you can apply using the New Officials Form along with a Letter of Recommendation from the Chief Scrutineer for a Trainee Car Scrutineer Licence and Trainee Environmental Scrutineer (if that is something that you are also interested in), however if you are wanting to become a Trainee Kart Scrutineer you will also need to have a DBS or PVG.
On successful application you will be emailed a Trainee Scrutineer Record Book and receive a Trainee Car Scrutineer and/or Trainee Environmental Scrutineer Licence in the post. If you do not have a Mentor, then we will assist you with finding a Mentor.
To become a Trainee Scrutineer it usually takes around 12 months, depending on the amount of events that you are able to attend and therefore progress that you make through completing your record book, and also when your Mentor (and yourself) believes that you are ready to upgrade to Scrutineer in the discipline to which you have been training.
Initially you will observe qualified scrutineers and assist them in their duties, checking competition vehicles and drivers safety equipment. As you gain experience and confidence you will become increasingly more hands on in the role.
It will take at least 12 months and experience at a range of events in order to
complete your training and progress to the full scrutineer role.
